Food Bank Celebrates 2nd Anniversary with $25,000 Grant from UPS
Food Bank UPSThe Caring Community Food Bank celebrates its second anniversary in Moncton with a crucial US$25,000 grant from UPS Canada.

Two years ago, The YMCA Caring Community Food Bank moved into the YMCA of Greater Moncton to help deliver food services to families in need. Due to a lack of storage, food was dropped off three times a week by the Food Depot Alimentaire. The lack of storage also hindered the YMCA's ability to accept food donations from local residents and businesses. The $25,000 grant from UPS Canada and The UPS Foundation has helped resolve these issues.

Battle of the Brains - Saturday March 27, 2010
Battle of the BrainsMuch like the popular TV show "Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader" many past participants, as well as even a few Battle of the Brains committee members are wondering if anyone out there is Smarter than a Spielo Slot Jockey. When asked how many times Spielo has won the coveted Battle of the Brains title many have been heard to say "too many times", however the unofficial count is 3 times. When asked to comment on their dominance at this historic fundraising event, team Captain Todd Grimm said "I think we might not even bring the title cup and the trophy with us to event this year, we're just gonna leave it at the office."

Annual Spin-a-thon

The YMCA Spin-A-Thon is an event that invites teams and individuals to participate in a five hour bike ride using our indoor spinning cycles.

Proceeds from this event support the activities of the YMCA International Committee.  Across our country, Canadian YMCAs work with YMCAs in lesser developed countries to help them achieve our shared goal of building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

Currently there are about 30 active partnerships between Canadian and overseas YMCAs.  The Moncton Y has partners in Colombia and Honduras.

YMCA Community Garden

Community Garden BrochureThanks to the United Way Day of Caring, the YMCA of Greater Moncton now has its own community garden.

The objective of the community garden is to create a space for people in the surrounding area and beyond to gather and learn about where their food comes from, all while watching it grow and reaping the benefits of their labor. The community garden comes at an especially important time in consideration of the rising cost of food and the world food crisis that is continually unraveling. The Community Garden will not only provide the space for people to have access to nutritious foods that they would not normally have access to but it will help educate people on the importance of an active healthy lifestyle while preventing social isolation. What better place to do it then the YMCA! To learn how you can get involved please contact the YMCA of Greater Moncton.
