 The YMCA of Greater Moncton recently held their Annual General Meeting on Thursday March 19 where a great number of YMCA members and other community partners attended. The Meeting was opened by Alan Mongraw, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Zane Korytko, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Moncton.“This year we wanted to educate and show people what we did in the community.” said Zane Korytko, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Moncton. “People need to understand that we are so much more than a fitness centre! In fact, when families become members the YMCA, they not only invest in their health, but they also invest in their own community.” Korytko, briefed the attendees on their past year’s financial results and some of the Y’s most important achievements: • The YMCA helped more than 1 400 individuals afford memberships through the Open Door Program • The YMCA helped 1 800 families put food on their table. More than 34 000 meals where delivered through the Community Caring Food Bank. • The YMCA helped over 2 600 people find resources during a difficult time through the Reconnect Street Intervention Program • The YMCA helped 34 families heat their homes through the Heating up the Holiday Program Looking forward, Alan Mongraw highlighted some of the projects members and the public could look forward to, including the start of the 2009 – 2014 strategic plan. “The new strategic plan will guide us for the next five years. This will not only be used as guide but will help us develop programs and services which will continue to meet the needs of our members and the community we serve” The YMCA of Greater Moncton also would like to welcome the following board members who were elected for a three year term: Andrée Savoie, Marc-Antoine Chiasson and Mike Randall. As a charity that’s over 150 years old, the YMCA continues to serve all ages, backgrounds and abilities through all stages of life. We have been dedicated to helping people attain good health through a healthy lifestyle and encouraging them to get involved in making their community a better place for everyone. |
