YMCA Group Fitness classes give you a chance to meet people, improve you fitness level, and have fun! Members are encouraged to work at their own pace. Ask your fitness instructor for assistance or exercise information at any time. Most of our classes include cardiovascular, muscular strength/endurance, and stretching components. YMCA fitness volunteers and staff are trained and certified as YMCA Fitness instructors.
Fall 2010 Group Fitness Programs
Adult Open Gym Activities include basketball and badminton.
Beginner Body Blast If you want to try a little step, a little hi-lo and a little weight training, this is the class for you. You can expect simple choreography with a bit of everything to give you cardio and strength work.
Bellyfit (NEW !) A full body workout for women only - ½ hour of fun cardio with easy to learn belly dancing inspired moves and ½ hour of sculpting, toning and tightening with Pilates inspired core work. Not recommended for pregnant women.
Boot Camp This class features athletic type exercises designed to work on the participants overall conditioning (heart rate, muscular endurance, functional strength) in a moderate to advanced level of intensity. Participants should come prepared for a tough workout designed to push everyone to their personal limits.
Cardio Combo Mix up your workout with this energetic cardio class. This fun combination-building class includes intervals and abdominal work.
Chair Yoga An adapted form of Hatha Yoga, postures are performed sitting in a chair or standing behind a chair to facilitate better balance. An excellent option for older adults and individuals with limited mobility.
Cyclefit This is a dynamic group cycling class. Suitable for all levels, this class will challenge your stamina!
Cyclefit Orientation Have you ever wanted to try cyclefit but not sure what to expect? The cyclefit orientation will go over expectations for the class and the instructor will make the bike adjustments so you are ready for your first class. Choose from one of the following : September 18, October 16, November 20 from 01:30p - 02:30p
Group Centergy This class brings you through a journey that includes yoga, Pilates, and positive, uplifting music. Center your energy, reduce stress, and smile!
Group Power A 60 minute barbell program that strengthens all your major muscle groups in an inspiring, motivating group environment.
Open Gym Walking Here's an opportunity for you to walk without ice and snow. The gym will be reserved for you on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00 - 8:45am. Please note this is unsupervised.
Laughter Yoga (NEW!) Combines group laughter exercises with Yogic breathing and childlike playfulness that doesn't rely on humour, jokes or comedy. Since the body can't differentiate between fake and real laughter, you get all the physical, mental and emotional benefits of laughter, plus you end up feeling really good! And not to worry... the laughter exercises soon turn into real, joyful and contagious laughter! Come try it out for yourself! Now open to children ages 8+; parent participation required.
Lebed Method The Lebed Method "Focus on Healing" is a therapeutic exercise program for women who have had any kind of breast surgery, node dissection, radiation, chemotherapy, or who suffer from chronic fatigue. Through the use of specifically designed movements, the program enhances physical and emotional well-being.
Nordic Walking Nordic Walking helps you burn approximately 20% more calories and engages your core muscles and upper body while walking. The impact on your lower joints is reduced - Poles will be provided. By appointment only. See Membership Services for more information.
Prime Time Join us in the studio for a half hour of low impact aerobics. Enjoy the music of your generation and the company of your friends as you improve your cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, and flexibility.
Super Flex & Tone Muscle toning class that uses tubing, hand weights, body resistance and/or stability balls.
YMCA Express - Core Core body training using BOSU and/or weights with focus on abdominal and back strengthening.
Y-Step I (Beginner) Learn the ABC's of Step without complicated choreography and find out for yourself why Step is such a great workout.
Y-Step II + III (Intermediate + Advanced) An aerobic workout on the Reebok step is a challenging and fun way to strengthen your cardiovascular system!
Yoga (All levels) Gentle stretches and poses with relaxation for de-stressing your mind and body.
Zumba The routine features interval training sessions with fast and slow rhythms. Resistance training is used to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Finally, add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you've got Zumba.
Zumba Gold This program is designed for the active adult population or zumba beginner. Zumba uses Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves in a calorie - burning, body energizing dance workout.
