It is the responsibility of the lifeguard to provide personal safety for the individuals using the swimming pool and surrounding area through preventative guarding methods. The lifeguard must respond according to sound life guarding principles to any emergency situation that may occur in the pool or surrounding area.

- Perform the job in a highly professional manner.
- Maintain the safety all patrons in the pool and surrounding area.
- Enforcement of rules while maintaining good public relations with members and program participants.
- Pool maintenance as assigned
- Wear lifeguard shirts and proper clothing while on duty.
- Follow all procedures and guidelines as stated in the Aquatic Orientation and the Lifeguard Orientation manuals.
- Remain on duty until relieved, never leave the area unguarded.
- Additional duties and tasks as assigned by management, board of directors and Executive Director.
